Who we are
Kariega Web Studio is the trading name of Simpiwe Sobici, a sole proprietor based in Kariega, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), Simpiwe is the "responsible party" for your personal information and also acts as our Information Officer.

What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us. When you fill in the enquiry form, we receive:
- your name, and your business name if you add it
- your WhatsApp or phone number
- your email address, if you add it
- what you'd like help with, your type of business and any message you write
- how you'd like us to get back to you, and that you agreed to be contacted
- the internet (IP) address your enquiry came from, which helps us spot spam and abuse
If you message us on WhatsApp or by email instead, we receive whatever you send us there.
Why we use it
We use your details only to reply to your enquiry and, if you decide to work with us, to talk about your website. We won't add you to a mailing list, send you marketing, or sell or share your details with anyone for their own use.
Who else handles it
A few trusted services handle your information on our behalf, only so that the website and our inbox work:
- our website hosting provider, which runs this website and delivers your enquiry to us
- our email provider, which runs the inbox where your enquiry arrives
- WhatsApp, if you choose to message us there
We only use established providers that are bound by their own data protection terms, and they may only use your information to provide their service to us. Some of them store information on servers outside South Africa, in countries with data protection laws similar to POPIA, which POPIA allows for transfers like this.
Website analytics
We use a privacy-friendly analytics service to see how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and only gives us totals, such as page views, the country visits come from and the type of browser. We can't use it to identify you. This website doesn't set any cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your enquiry for as long as we need it to reply and follow up. If we don't end up working together, we delete it within 12 months. If you become a client, we keep your details for as long as we work together, and afterwards only for as long as the law requires, such as for tax records.
How we keep it safe
The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and only Simpiwe can open the inbox where enquiries arrive.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong or out of date
- delete your information
- stop contacting you, at any time
Just email hello@kariegawebstudio.co.za. It's free, and we'll reply as soon as we can, within 30 days at the latest.
Making a complaint
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa). You can find their contact details and complaint forms at inforegulator.org.za.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
